Do servers go down when the building is hit with a seismic wave without seismic isolation? I imagine the force on the components would be small so as long as all the pieces are physically secured they would just shake around a bit along with the building.
The force could unseat components, damage mechanical hard drives, knock over a server rack, not to mention environmental damage like shifting the foundation or turning off the power.
