We were surprised by how the decision process was concentrated in a handful of multinational American technical corporations.

Yes, the Unicode standard is administered by the Unicode consortium, but the ISO 10646 standard is administered by ISO, an offshoot of the United Nations, and Unicode and ISO 10646 are joined at the hip - neither one can do anything without the other’s approval.

It’s a great narrative to say that Unicode is controlled by a handful of American corporations, but every modification to Unicode has to be approved by ISO, with all the international politics and cultural consideration that implies.

The only tag that would fit this is UI, maybe just plain garbage or stuffwhitepeoplelike.

Just, ugh.

EDIT: Not trolling…this is a kickstarter to get dumplings added to Unicode. This, when there are still legitimate human languages that aren’t well-supported.

While I hate to add to the discussion here, I do want to point out that the proposed design was made by Yiying Lu of Fail Whale fame.
