        Answer: they didn’t patch nethack to make it deterministic

          Deterministic nethack is probably not what they wanted either - you would end up with a bot overfitted for the predetermined “random” results of every decision, for a specific run, but that could not play well on normal versions of the game.

            Given that adding more luck made the bot freak out and make poorer decisions, it sounds like it’s already overfitted all to hell already.

              nah, you would just make sure to test multiple seeds
