What are you doing this week? Feel free to share!
Keep in mind it’s OK to do nothing at all, too.
Sailing in Greece!
You created this thread just to flex on the rest of us? Man, I was pretty happy with my media server project until I saw your post. I feel like you owe us pictures or something. :) Seriously though, that’s really cool!
Hah. I create them every week when I remember, just occasionally it feels like a flex. Genuinely interested in what the community gets up to though.
Most of my pictures end up on Instagram stories and vanish after 24h, some are posts too. Doesn’t make it look too glamorous admittedly. Here’s a glamour shot.
I started writing an introductory book about decentralisation protocols. Besides that I’m probably upgrading my blog to Racket 8.5.
I want to finish my Gemini browser for mobile programming classes.
Now it’s crashing with some specific links. I think it’s when it parses the URLs and finds out that it starts with a space the parser raises an exception. I need to make something to normalize that, probably a common class.
I plan to release AGENA after I present it. It’s a fully native app that uses native elements to render gmi.
I think it can be easily expanded to work with other small web protocols like gopher, if it doesn’t know how to handle some file or protocol it just runs the intent so if you tap in an HTML button it opens as if you clicked a link on Telegram, for example.
Yesterday I was experimenting with creating a PowerShell library using F# .
Working on a CLI book for beginner/intermediate users. I had written tutorials a few years back, been updating them to read better as a book. Long way to go before it is publication ready.
Been a while since I wrote a blog post (other than tips), hope to at least narrow down a topic to write.
Got a fantasy book for beta-reading from an author I’ve enjoyed before, looking forward to read it this week.
I’m finally getting real internet and a custom-designed couch tomorrow coincidentally
work-side I have a bunch of Rails upgrade work to do and various evaluations for local development standardization across the product teams (some of which run bare metal, some run via Docker, and this matrix is multiplied by having all permutations of MacOS + Linux and x86_64 + aarch64 represented somewhere among the dev fleet)
personal code projects: I’m continuing to hash out the basics of my programming language pursuit, https://github.com/klardotsh/gluumy. it’s constantly in flux but mostly solidifying into the form of a will-be-type-safe Forth-inspired deque-based language. this week’s mission is implementing a type system (which I’ve never done before in any real capacity) and sorting out dynamic word dispatch based on stack signatures and current stack state.
personal non-code stuff: I need to head up into the Mt Baker forest and use my firewood collection permit before it expires… I’ve had a million and one reasons I needed to keep delaying this, but this week it finally needs to happen as the permit expires Saturday or so
Writing a little bit, trying to clear out a backlog of blog post ideas that have been blocked by me fiddling with the SSG instead.
I really want to integrate my blog article source folder into my Obsidian folder, but I have some Rack hacking to do before that will work.
Did a bunch of sysadmin nonsense yesterday. Today I’m going to see what it’s like to build Yocto inside Earthly.
There’s ANOTHER week? … sigh … Maybe poking some Fennel & Love2D and seeing if I can’t establish some non-terrible system for deciding when to stop trying/wanting to do something.
Have you been able to get your feet under you as far as getting a basic setup up and going for Fennel and Löve?
It’s still in the early stages, I’m using this example project. I run NixOS so hopefully should be straight forward to get all the various ducks in a row.
That is what I would have linked anyway, just wanted to make sure you had a starting point.
I’m willing to answer basic/intermediate Löve questions, there’s also a Discord for it, and Matrix room for Fennel, if you’ve not gone there already.
Off tomorrow for Brussels for a meetup with my work colleagues in the Igalia compilers team. Looking forward to meeting many of my co-workers in person for the first time.
Writing so much stuff for work. Not just code but prose, plans for doing “office hours” on Twitch, and hacking at some “development hardware” that should come in today or tomorrow.
I’m continuing to volunteer teaching CS to high schools with TEALS. The class is an intro Python course. It’s my fifth year running and it’s been a delight. The kids are all so funny and sharp and just a joy to be around. :)
Made some improvements on Graph Galaxy - added support to create node by dragging image into the canvas view, and polished the source code editor to support highlighting occurrences for the item under the cursor.
Trying to get feedback on a short puzzle game I’ve been working on over the last two weeks. I’m pleased with the design, but I might be fooling myself that it’s comprehensible. (I’d post it here but I don’t want to burn too many first impressions just yet on this version, if anyone wants to try feel free to get in touch.)
Took this week off as the past month has been quite stressful. Gonna read a few books on piano technique. Also will be finishing up registration on a new charity dedicated to mental health in my local area. Still need to put up a website (thinking of wordpress to make it easy). Donation processing is gonna be a mystery.
