This is a nice write-up. I’ll add to the part about research papers that you can get good results typing in terms you’re looking for with the word “survey” in quotes just like that. The survey papers are gold mines. Another issue is academics often come up with their own jargon for even popular fields to signal to readers what category of solution or research they’re presenting. Helps to keep an eye out for those to feed them into Google to see what you come up with. An example in INFOSEC was where what I called security via diversity or obfuscation was being called “moving target” by both researchers and funding agencies. Typing that phrase in got me extra results that were interesting.
