I’m not a sociologist, and I see corporate-sponsored hackathons as exploitation. It’s one thing to do unpaid labor for a non-profit. Do it for a for-profit business and you’re nothing but a schmuck and a traitor to your fellow workers.
I’ve seen a prospective employer list all week-end hackathons as part of their company culture as if this would sway me into getting a job there.
Eh… I don’t see how doing a 72 hours shift of unpaid overtime is anything but exploitation. Does anyone really considers this a perk?
