I’m surprised you opted to train from scratch rather than starting with pretrained weights. Have you compared? I’m not sure you’ll get more accuracy but I’d expect youll get the same result in much less time
I have not compared. Would agree that I would most likely get the same result in much less time.
It was an experiment to see if training from scratch worked and, it did. I’m actually surprised that it managed to do so in 8 hours with a 2060 laptop GPU (2020). If I were to rerun this today on a 3090 or 4090, I wonder if it could be trained in less than an hour (from scratch).
