I just got offered a new job. I will report directly to the CISO (2 steps from CEO). I’ve never reported to someone like this before, and have primarily reported to a mid level manager.

What things should I keep in mind?

Thanks!

You’ve described your reporting structure, but not whether you’re responsible for staff or budget. Are you reporting on behalf of a team? Working solo but possibly cross-functionally? Advice is going to differ depending not only on who you’re reporting to but on what you’re reporting about.

That said, simple as the following advice is, not everyone does it:

    1. Show up on time.
    2. Do what you say.
    3. Finish what you start.
    4. Say ‘please’ and ‘thank you.’

    Congratulations on your new job.

primarily solo, but cross functional with dev teams, and mgmt.

In my experience @alynpost’s advice is pretty spot on for any job.

I will add that many times it’s just important to finish when you say you will as it is to finish. People in high places like graphs and deadlines.
