    Makes you really appreciate how much the brain is able to do with just 2 ‘microphones’.

      I visited an audio company years ago to give a talk and I got a tour of their facilities. One of the things they showed off was a 1x1m metal square with a webcam in the middle and 128 microphones placed at various locations around the frame.

      This allowed them to point the webcam and microphone array at some noise and visually overlay the noise on the image, allowing them to pinpoint the source.

        Very cool, and don’t miss this in the comments: http://sound-camera.com/ I’d thought about doing this but always assumed the array would have to be enormous to have decent discrimination. Looks like I was mistaken. Imagine plugging one of these sensor arrays into VR goggles …
