I recently ran across this article, which was written back when Hipstamatic and Instagram were new. I think it might even be more interesting to read now. In 2011 it wouldn’t have been clear to me whether this was over-interpreting some minor app fad, but in 2018 it’s clear this style of app-produced vintage photography filters has real staying power.
