    I think that this would be a great enhancement, when reading old threads with many nested comments, it’s sometimes hard to follow. If people disagree on this, maybe it can be enabled/disabled on personal preferences.

            If we agree that color-coding is an improvement, there’s still a debate whether the colors should be per top-level comment (vertical rainbow), or the color should indicate the depth of the comment (horizontal rainbow).

            So I think it’s best to do that in a future pull request after some more thought and experimentation.

        Looks a little cluttery. Even more so with the colours.

        Considering that it’s mainly hard to differentiate between two adjacent levels, it might be enough to use a rotation of two (or more) alternating background colours under messages, perhaps such that they extend all the way down the thread. Then, reading one message, you should see the background colour of the containing parent message. If the colours are subtle enough, it might not look too cluttery?
