    Once an orthodox sets in, it can take a long time for people to move past it. Basically, what has to happen is a new generation of junior engineers need to come into new companies with no adult supervision, and they’ll build single node architectures because they were never taught to do multinode.

      It’s really funny to me that “buy a big computer and scale up” was largely accepted wisdom back in 2000 when computers were too small to fit much stuff on, but now “buy many small computers and scale out” is accepted wisdom in the 2020s now that computers really are big enough to take on entire continents at a time.
