I downvoted this because I don’t feel that SV culture is the type of content that should be on lobste.rs, even if it agrees with my view on SV. This post is better for a place like HN.

I submitted because I’m fascinated with the story of Theranos. Having read most of the research behind their (alleged) technology, I’m aware that this kind of tech is possible, and I also know that it’s extremely difficult to patent because it’s already public domain in most cases, which explains why Holmes insists it must be a trade secret - I’m almost positive she found a really nice regulatory and patent loophole to be able to bring this tech to market.

Point is that technology doesn’t always win, sometimes social/political/regulatory issues get in the way, and in this case all three reigned down on Theranos and sent them into this nosedive. Hence why I thought it was relevant to lobsters, irrespective of HN or SV.

This post isn’t about any of the technology behind Theranos, it’s about the Valley and how it interacts with the media. A post about the actual Theranos technology would be worth having on lobste.rs, IMO.
