So I shouldn’t worry about it, then? Or are systems still vulnerable? As someone not well-versed in the finer points of memory management, I’m having difficulty understanding the gravity of the situation under all the not-a-big-deal talk.
There is a concern that if malware gets on your computer, it can dig in deep, thwarting even extreme removal measures like reinstalling the OS. (Actually I’m not sure they demonstrated persistence, though it seems possible.)
This is a lot of trouble, though, so perhaps you can console yourself with the idea that bad guys are lazy and will stick to regular old kernel level rootkits. :)
