What if you fail to reach the funding target? We appreciate every bit of support we receive during the 30 days, and every backer will be welcomed into the Ubuntu community. If we don’t reach our target then we will focus only on commercially available handsets and there will not be an Ubuntu Edge.
Sorry, we didn’t reach the goal… but thanks for the $600! Be sure to stay up to date with the Ubuntu community on our forums.
I think you get your money back in that case. My main concern would be their promise it’ll have the fastest bestest CPU, whatever that happens to be in May 2014. The mobile world moves really fast, and the only way to release a latest design is to update an existing working design. Brand new designs rarely have the latest and greatest components.
The iPhone of today is usually close to cutting edge, but the original model was decidedly conservative on the inside.
You’re right, you do get your money back. I’m not sure what the “fastest” mobile CPU will be at the time of release but 128GB of storage seems pretty impressive. Maybe that will be the norm in 2014 but currently puts my 8GB Nexus 4 to shame.
I feel their pitch was missing a critical section: “what we have learned from openmoko”.
