Company: runZero
Company site: runZero.com
Position(s): Security Research Engineer and a Full Stack Go engineer
Location: Remote (US only), we’re spread out across most of the continental US though the research team is (currently) all in Austin, TX. Being in Austin absolutely isn’t required but if you are we meet up for lunch occasionally.
Description:
runZero turns security research into asset inventory. We safely fingerprint devices and systems using passive and active network scanning and let customers know what’s really on their network. The Research Engineer role helps us identify devices by reverse engineering protocols, writing protocol decoders, figuring out what devices do/are, exploring new ways to identify devices, tracking vulnerability intelligence, and so on. This role would report to me so feel free to ask me any questions!
There’s also a full stack (Go/JS/Postgres) position but I can’t speak to that one as much except to say that everyone on that side of the shop is super smart.
Tech stack: We’re a 100% Go shop, so you’d need to be comfortable with extremely large (hundreds of thousands of lines) of Go.
Compensation: I believe (but don’t quote me on it) that salary for both positions is in the $160-190k range. Excellent benefits that are 100% paid for by the company and unlimited PTO (though, again, don’t quote me on it).
Contact: You can apply directly at https://www.runzero.com/careers/ or DM me here or email me at rob@frigidriver.com.
It might be a good idea to do this a few weeks into the quarter. A lot of places have HR folks taking holiday around now so won’t be posting new jobs until they get back and clear the Christmas backlog.
Company: Datadog
Company site: NYC
Position(s): Senior Backend Systems Engineer
Location: REMOTE (US)
Description:
My team @ Datadog is actively looking to hire a Senior Backend Systems Engineer, to work closely with the CoScreen (www.coscreen.co) team on developing our next generation remote collaboration tool.
If you’re a low level developer with experience developing desktop applications, particularly with Rust, or C++ skills, we’d love to hear from you. We are looking for someone who can work on a diverse set of challenging and interesting problems, from remote application control on OSX and Windows, to maintaining Rust based backend infrastructure.
Backend Systems Engineer: https://careers.datadoghq.com/detail/5103658/?gh_jid=5103658
Tech stack: Rust, C++, Typescript, Electron, WebRTC, XMPP, Jitsi.
Compensation: $187,000 - $240,000.00, plus a competitive equity package, and may include variable compensation.
Contact: jason.thomas@datadoghq.com, or apply at the above link.
Who am I: 30+ year tech industry veteran website coder, father of a 2.5 year old son, occasional gamer/biker/sailor (whenever I have time, which is unfortunately “almost never” these days), and currently Director of Engineering for the below company.
Company: Addigence.com
Position(s): Software developer (with a functional focus or inclination or intent to learn, ideally Elixir or Erlang), ideally with LiveView and Tailwind knowledge (and postgres/ecto of course). Need both “backend-ish” and “frontend-ish” people (since full-stack leaves me with just too much to stay on top of!)
Location: NYC (prefer onsite, or nearby at least if remote; we currently are hybrid with half remote 100% of the time, a quarter in 1 or 2 days a week, and a few onsite. We believe partial in-person is strongly conducive to productivity and focus, but you can try to convince us otherwise…)
Description: We’re a pre-launch financial services startup democratizing portfolio management while also expanding potential profitability (and taking a small cut ourselves). We already have a growing list of portfolio managers (and soon, portfolio strategy investors, who we term “allocators”) who want to join whenever we launch (hopefully in the next few months!) Basically, “fintech” without the crypto or blockchain focus (for now).
Tech stack: Our stack is Elixir/Phoenix/Postgres, learning LiveView and Tailwind kind of on-the-fly (you can help here!) We currently deploy to fly.io (aiming for completely painless devops-free deploys); this may change as things develop. We use Nix to manage developer dependencies (works wonderfully) and I’m personally still evaluating how to use Nix for deploys.
Compensation: Frankly, expect less cash and more equity right now, since we’re simply at that stage at this time (old hats to startups will understand). Major upside potential, of course (I know they all tell you that, but I joined in June and I’m pretty critical, especially if I’m taking a pay cut upfront, and so far so good- let us try to convince you!). Everyone here is pretty awesome, so there’s that, too.
Contact: {peter,kenton,michael}@addigence.com (any of us, or just reach out to me!)
Company: RELEX Solutions
Company site: https://www.relexsolutions.com/careers/
Position(s): Hardware Performance Engineer (also: Application Development Team Lead; Data & ML Engineer; Database Specialist; Problem Manager; Senior Front End Developer; Site Reliability Engineer)
Location: Finland, Sweden, Portugal (remote)
Description: Identifying, selecting, qualifying, and productizing the most efficient, effective hardware for our needs. You will be in regular contact with the largest hardware vendors in the world, discussing their newest offerings and hands-on testing proof-of-concept devices. Ensuring our servers are optimized for our software from the physical specifications to the BIOS and cooperating closely with our software performance team to align how the hardware can complement our software the best.
Tech stack: Linux (RHEL), openjdk, Prometheus, Grafana, InfluxDB, Gitlab
Compensation: (ask the recruiter)
Contact: See announcement
Company: Airbnb
Company site: airbnb.com
Position(s): Airbnb is hiring widely (see https://careers.airbnb.com/positions/), though my org in particular is looking to hire several SWE / SREs focused on reliability.
Location: US based. You’re welcome to work from an office if you’re near one (e.g. SF, Seattle, NY, etc) but you can live anywhere and a vast majority of people are remote. See https://news.airbnb.com/airbnbs-design-to-live-and-work-anywhere/ for more details on this policy.
Description: https://careers.airbnb.com/positions/4985479/ does a good job describing the role imo, happy to answer any additional questions one might have
Tech stack: Primarily Java, Golang, Ruby, AWS. This is probably more for your information than a hard requirement for us.
Compensation: Total compensation depends a lot on the level, see levels.fyi for an idea: https://www.levels.fyi/?compare=Airbnb&track=Software%20Engineer
Contact: Feel free to reach out to me on here if you have any questions about the role
Company: Competition Company (RENNSPORT)
Company site: https://rennsport.gg (warning: auto-playing video on some browsers and on-click)
Position(s): Gameplay programmer, Platform/Backend Programmer (Go/PGSQL/GCP), Web Developer
Location: REMOTE (but from Sweden or Germany only, travel to Malmö, Sweden might be expected sometimes)
Description: Competition Company is developing the RENNSPORT project. A AAA quality racing simulator with a focus on online features. NOTE: We are often confused with a blockchain/web3 company because we use the terminology “digital ownership”: we are not blockchain related at all and this is an unfortunate coincidence in wording.
Tech stack: Game: Unreal Engine 5 + CPP, Perforce; Platform: Golang, GCP, PGSQL; Web: Vue3, Vite
Compensation: Salary depends on position and experience, between €60,000-€70,000 p.a

Location: ONSITE in San Francisco, CA
Description: SPAN designs and manufactures the SPAN Smart Panel, an electric panel that performs software-based load management and monitoring for homes with solar, battery storage, and electric appliances like EV chargers.
I’m on the Device Platform team, a 6-person team maintaining the Yocto-based embedded Linux platform underpinning SPAN’s hardware products. We’re hiring a Rust-focused systems software engineer to work on our application platform. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience building reliable and maintainable software in Rust, C/C++, Go, or other compiled, statically-typed languages. We are looking for someone 1. excited about our problem space and 2. is able to help us maintain best practices with the language and ecosystem.
In the next year, you may:
Tech stack: Rust, systemd, MQTT and gRPC, Linux (Yocto), FreeRTOS, Buildkite (CI)
