A slightly older article about the first few Cicada 3301 challenges and those who claimed to have solved them.

    Interesting. I’m with the security researcher in the assessment that it’s anti-establishment, underground types. My first guess was some hackers or people like that aiming for notoriety: showing off how smart they are with option of getting more smart people in their click. Back in early Internet, there were all kinds of elaborate schemes and pranks people were pulling off to make it seem like some elusive, elite, powerful group was involved. They were just people screwing around on terminals. So, notoriety of some smart bullshitters should be default position on anything like this.
