With the recent news that Gitter is joining Matrix, I’m super excited at the idea of developers using Matrix in lieu of something like Slack (I seriously have fifteen different Slack logins for open source projects). Having a simple, single binary solution to running your own homeserver is going to be super useful. I already have an account with matrix.org, which feels authoritative enough to use generally, but having firstname:domain.com would be pretty nice if I can host it on the cheap. It looks like you just need a Postgres DB, which can be run on the same machine as Dendrite if you really wanted to. I’m also interested to see if you could run Dendrite on something like Google Cloud Run or AWS Lambda for a scale-to-zero experience.

Does people who get a little too excited about it are called dendrophile?
