I ended up writing my own kernel.

Well, I went ahead and rewrote the emulator core in assembly.

After the JIT worked, I rewrote it.

Some people just leave me in awe. I also drank a glass of water, likely that was as easy for me as writing a kernel is for the author.

Speaking as someone who routinely manages to forget to drink the water and breath the air, not the other way around, writing the kernel sounds easier. Or, at least, less likely to result in pain.

I got this up and running on the STM32 board and it’s pretty usable. Given a case with a battery, charger, and something for HotSync (either a USB-serial port, or, for retro cred an actual cradle-compatible connector) it would be an acceptable PDA.

As a Palm hobbyist I love still holding the actual devices, but this is almost as much fun as PumpkinOS, which is itself making leaps and bounds. https://github.com/migueletto/PumpkinOS
