I’ve been typing some thoughts on SteamOS/Machines for a while. I think the tl;dr is there may be a fundamental culture clash, combined with a lack of interest from Valve and partners.
I think you’re right. I suspect the intersection of people interested in SteamOS and people who build their own PCs is quite large. I’m really curious to see the ratio of SteamOS installs to Steam Machine purchases. I really hope poor Steam Machine sales don’t hurt the development of SteamOS too much.

I was hoping for literal steam engines, I was disappointed.
