Feel free to tell what you plan on doing this weekend and even ask for help or feedback.

Please keep in mind it’s more than OK to do nothing at all too!

My family is at a holiday home on the Norwegian coast, with my sister and her family. Tomorrow we’ll try snorkelling and free-diving. I’ve never tried it, but my sister and brother-in-law are both qualified divers, so I expect they’ll give me some pointers. The sea is crystal clear here this time of year, so I think it should be fun. Really looking forward to it!

I live in the States but love the Norwegian coast. My wife and I were there a month ago and got to tour fjords in a way we haven’t on previous trips. We can’t wait to go back. Your weekend sounds amazing!

Safety cover at the sailing club on Sunday for racing, will be the first time I’ve been at the club in a couple of months so looking forward to it. Might even make it across and sail in the next week or so (🙀).

Garage conversion is continuing at a decent pace, I need to extend the existing lighting circuit into two and wire up some more sockets this weekend ready for the builder to continue next week. Given I have most of a day free and it’s not supposed to be raining, I should be able to get the lawn cut and the Z4 back on the road too. It’s practically criminal how long that’s been sat on the drive undriven.

I’m taking my first sailing class this weekend! Two days, gonna go for ASA 101 certification tomorrow. Today was fun, even if I got a little seasick for a bit.

I just had a meetup for introducing tala saman (my datalisp). Tomorrow is “culture night” - the birthday of the city - which is celebrated with all sorts of events.. it’s really cool because some people (artists, politicians, motivated) invite everyone and anyone to their home or garage (or wherever) to share something. They can get money for it from the city so there’s a lot and also because it hasn’t been held for two years there’s even more. Sunday I meet my friend online to program a bit.

        1. 1

Hiking around the Mt. Baker area with family visiting. Hope the temps stay nice :)

I bought a circular saw, a bunch of mouldings, and cut my first 45 degree angle… I even did some trig to re-confirm the angle I needed to get a 1.2 inch sticking-out-from-the-edge-of-the-wall cut. All of this was damn scary but after that first cut… Holy let’s get going!

So I’ve been sanding off the old paint edges from the old mouldings and going to measure out and cut the rest. Touching up places with paint. My living room is looking dang good.

The various heavily discounted Standard ML books I got off eBay have been trickling in so I’ve begun to read one :) Already I feel I understand pieces of the language better. I really wish this information was free. I guess in the future if I get enough people convinced to look at SML I might write my own (I really like teaching and this is the best way to practice the knowledge). I’m learning there’s essentially a sub-set of the language that most people can start doing really useful things with!

Wanted to write some Code CAD, we’ll see. I’m thinking of writing a SML -> OpenSCAD, RepliCAD, Curv translator so I can use which ever is most convenient (maybe even find a way to combine the results of each… That’d be nuts!) for the task at hand. So that makes two SML projects I want to tackle next: writing a parser and writing that. Probably not going to happen at all this weekend though :D.

            1. 1

Currently waiting for Odesza / San Holo concert to start. Incubus / Sublime concert tomorrow night. And then dinner with the fam Sunday night :-)

              1. 2

Seeing Odesza at the end of Aug. here in Mtl :)!

              2. 1

Checking over a scan of Programming Languages: History and Fundamentals. I finished assembling it today but I want to take a few days to review it before uploading to an archive near you.

                1. 1

Please please post it here! I would love to read this!

                2. 1

Working on the semantic analysis and JIT compilation for jank. Also putting out a new Compiler Spotlight post on Gwion. Probably also finishing Mistborn: Shadows of Self and moving onto the final book in the series.

                  1. 1

Working on a blog post. Reflecting on my first week on a new team. Worrying about family.
