For a post about accessibility, that background is kind of distracting against the white text.

The article posted could benefit from some a11y improvements itself. I am reasonably abled in terms of vision and perception of contrasts, and still the light, blurred elements of an otherwise dark background make it not only distracting, but simply difficult to read the white (and even yellowish) text. I don’t think my friends who have impaired vision could read it easily.

Accessibility is the single most important metric I use for my personal website (via Chrome Lighthouse). While still far from perfect, I look after ARIA support, I try to make sure the font is sufficiently large, the color scheme is rather simple, there is only one non-gray color most of the time (dark teal), there are few visual elements besides banner, post heading images and occassional diagrams. As for high contrast, AFAIK it should be around AA, though I couldn’t get the contrasts up to AAA.

And mind you, I have no professional background in graphic design and/or frontend and/or UX. It should not be too hard for professionals to handle a11y.
