      In the case of the Waveshare board, my first suspect would be that the “FTDI” chip isn’t genuine. I can’t speak for the FT245, but for the more common FT232 it’s such an issue that at least one person has documented swapping the chips on cheap serial adapters for genuine ones https://www.sevarg.net/2017/03/fixing-fake-ftdi-ft232rl-adapters-ssop.html .

      Taking that into account, both blasters would appear to have the same type of problem: whoever slapped the hardware together assumed that the chips he’d sourced cheaply would work the same as the one in the “reference design” he was copying.
