I’m not convinced the pie wifi is that much safer. I can walk around the neighborhood, collect all the free wifi passwords, and program them in. Then I can pretend to be that ap just about anywhere else in the neighborhood that’s not literally in the store (and probably could even in the store). To the extent I expect people to be roaming my neighborhood with pineapples, I expect them to have all the local wifi passwords programmed in too. (true, it is much easier with insecure networks, but not secret passwords do not make the entire problem disappear.)

fwiw, Windows by default will only connect once to an unsecured wifi. You have to click the network every time.
