      This article is misleading in the sense that there are many more illegal numbers than is implied by it, in the sense that there are millions (likely billions) of numbers that are illegal to posses without paying for them. ;)

        Makes me wonder if there’s a file sharing community that exchanges numbers representing files rather than the files themselves.

          That depends on the specific example - most of the ones in “other examples” seem to be illegal to display, rather than possess. The banned search terms are illegal in the software sense. :)
