1. 10

Feel free to tell what you plan on doing this weekend and even ask for help or feedback.

Please keep in mind it’s more than OK to do nothing at all too!

  2. 8

I plan on spending some time with KiCad, I want to build up enough experience to start making boards for my own experiments with low level UHF/RFID tech.

    1. 1

I had a lot of fun making a two layer board with kicad, and want to build some more boards with it now.

    2. 5

I’m going to Ottawa with my fiancé to celebrate his birthday. Next week I’m flying to Standford for a medical study about a brain hack I’ve been doing for near 7 years.

      1. 3

That’s a nice teaser :D What is this brain hack about ?

        1. 3

          Here’s a bunch of words.

          1. 2

Both write-ups are fascinating. I knew you were different but couldn’t pin down what I was feeling. Not enough experience with this. You’re potentially in good company as at least one person here will get where you’re coming from. She’s more thoughtful and considerate than many I’ve met despite our differences.

Anyway, still gonna try to focus on what’s in your submissions here versus whatever biases those write-ups might create. It’s the kind of stuff I’d rather just talk to you personally about if I ran into you vs online forums. That might be a while. Meanwhile, keep posting. :)

      2. 4

Leaving the laptop at home and taking a quick trip to the beach :)

        1. 4

I’ve just started the Italy leg of my interrail trip. So I’m going to go to Firenze tomorrow. I will enjoy a lot of nice food, that costs next to nothing (I came from Switzerland! It’s an amazing country with breathtaking views, but hot damn, eating out is expensive)

Oh yeah, and I’ll continue to take a whole lot of photographs with my DSLR and Insta360.

Speaking of that, does anyone of you know of a static site generator for photo galleries? ;-)

          1. 2

Speaking of that, does anyone of you know of a static site generator for photo galleries? ;-)

It’s not statically generated, but SmugMug’s fantastic, if you don’t want the hassle of hosting your own.

          2. 4

UK round of the Red Bull World Pump Track Championships where I’m currently the poster boy ;~)

So it will be a weekend fun on two wheels!

            1. 4

Working on a plan to get paid by a deadbeat client who has been dodging payment and making me feel guilty about asking to be paid for almost four years.

              1. 4

It turns out that apart from becoming a plumber and electrician due to a lack of competent local contractors, I am now also apparently going to be dabbling in auto electrical work, and playing the “I wonder if this generic but 1/43rd the price part is any good” game, because I refuse to pay Toyota $500 for one fucking headlight.

Also probably a bunch more plumbing, so the garden doesn’t turn into a crispy brown wasteland due to lack of rain.

                1. 1

Small update: the local-brand (and literally $11USD a piece, shipped) Xenon bulbs work fine so far.

                  1. 1

Further update: 2 days after install they’re not reliable. Returning, trying a set of Phillips.

                2. 4

I’ll be backporting FreeBSD’s ASR work into HardenedBSD 12-STABLE such that HardenedBSD’s ASLR implementation is preferred over FreeBSD’s ASR.

                  1. 4

Assembling PCBs, testing a new CNC flow, a whole lot of running, and reading through open FF tabs.

                    1. 3

PyBay! If you’re there, come and say hi!

                      1. 3

Reading a bit of “Common lisp: gentle intro to symbolic computation” to start learning CL as a first lisp. On the side trying to figure out the api that one of the android apps I have uses with wireshark+mitmproxy. first time “reverse engineering”, so it’s been a lot of discovery and fun!

Maybe start a blog too? I don’t have any new knowledge that isn’t already written somewhere else, though.

                        1. 3

I’m finishing up some features for my DnD project. Primarily, authentication. I’m writing some authentication abilities using actix-web, diesel, and bcrypt. I’m also writing a tutorial on how to do it, since I couldn’t exactly find one when I was looking. Afterwards I’ve got to figure out an issue I’m having with GCP Cloud Run not being able to connect to my Cloud SQL instance.

                          1. 3

                            Preparing for the camp.

Probably also implementing total ordering for floating point values in assembly for the language I’m working on. This should be trivial (shifts and comparisons), but I’m not well-versed in assembly.

                            1. 3

                              Tomorrow:
I will spend the morning baking an apple pie.
I am going to a party in the afternoon and will bring the pie as a gift.

                              1. 3

Now I finished up and released my tagging software, to literally zero response, I’ll probably be writing yet another cover letter and writing a replacement to the hierarchial notebook hnb, because it hasn’t had a release in almost 20 years and it’s very, very buggy.

                                1. 1

Ooh, file tagging. Will this make it possible to ignore hierarchies of my personal files?

                                  1. 1

I mean, if we’re on the same page, sure. You can dump your files in one folder and tag things and filter them that way, or you can use it to tag a bunch of files in different folders on the same mountpoint (cross-mountpoint makes things icky because of filesystem badness) to extend the existing hierarchy. etc.

                                2. 3

Being an Iranian and all decided to migrate everything from https://github.com/amir to self-hosted https://git.gluegadget.com/. I gave sourcehut serious thoughts and happy to pay for and support it but don’t want to put @sircmpwn in a difficult situation where he has to terminate a customer’s account to comply with regulations. I’ll keep my github account for the social-networking aspects of it though, but will be making all repos mirrors.

                                  1. 3

Hanging out a friend’s, where we’re hacking on a thing, walking his dog and no doubt spending some time in his hot tub.

Should be a lovely relaxing weekend!

                                    1. 3

                                      Camping in the rain!

                                      1. 3

I successfully installed guix on a 2015 Chromebook pixel with the caveats that there is no sound and the touchpad needs some TLC. Also battery life is fairly abyssmal.

This weekend I plan on compiling and adding the xf86-input-cmt touchpad driver. This will be a nice way to dip my toes into packaging for guix as it depends on two other components: libevdevc and libgestures. The tutorials so far have been spot on and very helpful.

If this takes less time to learn and do than I hope my next step will be figuring out how to integrate guix with doom emacs so that refreshing packages in doom actually triggers guix to download them rather than straight.

                                        1. 2

I’ll be packing 1,500+ swag bags for Abstractions II, which is next week. Shameless plug: still time to buy tickets to this software conference in Pittsburgh! Bonus points, you’ll get to see me in a top hat running around like Barry Allen.

                                          1. 2

I was afraid I’d be working again this weekend, but I just solved a JDBC SSL connection problem in my development environment that has been driving me crazy for a few days, which basically turned into a complete troubleshooting guide for SSL certificates with PostgreSQL. I’ve got some weekly processes running, and once those are done, I’m packing up my cats and heading to my folks’, where I’ll presumably be able to turn my mind off and do some physical work for a few days.

On Sunday afternoon, I’ll be going to my friend’s 5-year cancer-free house party. I heard some talk of mini-golf that evening as well.

                                            1. 2

Was planning to hang out with some friends but those plans fell through, so I think I’ll just stay home and do nothing. Just now I managed to parse about 6 years’ worth of IRC logs written by different clients in different formats to a nice regular 364mb CSV file, so I guess I’ll think about what to do with it.

                                              1. 1

Were the logs smaller after parsing? Seems like a good archival step if so….

                                                1. 1

Not really. The log lines are a bit longer because each line includes server name, channel name, and the timestamp, which in the originals didn’t always include year-month-day (sometimes not even seconds). On the other hand I didn’t keep the server logs. Either way it’s all plain text so however big it might be it doesn’t weigh much compressed.

                                              2. 2

I need to go through all the pictures I took on vacation last month and start uploading them to SmugMug. I have a terrible habit of taking nearly the same picture 2 or 3 times with slightly different camera position or focus. I never think to delete the “bad” ones at the time I’m taking them, so I ended up with 3k photos to filter through, and maybe only 800-1200 are worth keeping :-(

I’d also like to create a higher level graphics API on top of my Blend2D CL bindings, but right now it’s more of an idea than anything.

                                                1. 2

I have an old box running a ton of VMs all with wasted resources and things that aren’t being well maintained. I’m backing it up, rebuilding it with alpine and going to run a docker cluster on it to replace the services so they’re updated with ouroborous.

                                                  1. 2

Seeing Where’d You Go, Bernadette tonight. Not my first choice for a movie, but my gf read the book and wants to see it. Plus, she went with me to see Once Upon a Time a couple weeks ago.

Not sure what the plans are for the rest of the weekend. I’ll try to get some C exercises done and make some progress on “Dune” and “The Border.”

                                                    1. 2

Hey Riddle Riddle liveshow, prepping for a workshop Monday, and attending the Chicago Gelato festival.
