I don’t follow Node, is this like an egcs situation?

Except that the Node Foundation was created before the fork even happened, no? In my understanding it had been set up by the company as a means for community governance to address the original dissatisfaction, but (this is the limit of my understanding of the situation) for whatever reason the structure did not allow addressing the issues sufficiently, and too little progress in fixing it resulted in the fork. And that detour has apparently now compelled a willingness to restructure the Foundation into an actual viable governance body. Is that correct?
Aha. I stand corrected.
