Nice to see that async is supported now, regardless of the merits of async that helps avoid the balkanisation of the python community. Django also has some support too.

As time passes I’m keener to revisit my benchmark of the various web frameworks. I wonder what will have changed.

This title feels way too long, but I wasn’t sure how to editorialize it so I just left it alone.

The only way I’d improve it is change “Released!” to “of” and add the bang to the end if you must have it. That’d make it a single line at most resolutions I view things in.

That means there are some busy times coming up, as I’ve got Flask, Werkzeug, Jinja and Click in lots of things I touch. I suppose I’ll rip the bandaid off and make that move the same time I bump the interpreter and stdlib to 3.10. I suspect the 3.10 jump will cause me more pain than these library upgrades, anyway.

Seems like the updates are mostly backwards compatible from what I read, besides removing Python 2 support, and deprecating a couple of (I think) rarely used functions. Doesn’t seem that major to me, but pallets projects do usually move quite slowly in general.

I just tried it out on one of my simpler click projects. No tears so far.

You’re right about pallets projects in general. My pessimism might be unwarranted.

            Oh? Why is that?

PEP 563 and some ancillary stuff adjacent to it was what I specifically was worried about. But it looks like they’ve deferred 563 to a later release, so probably not as much as I thought.

Versions like X.10 seem cursed to me in general (stupid things that parse 3.10 as a number less than 3.9, etc.) but that hadn’t been what I was thinking of.

Yeah, 563 was worrying me a bit. I was glad that they postponed it. I was afraid that there might be a new bugbear for 3.10. Hope it’s a smooth release!
