There are kinda two concepts here, and I think untangling them must be done before creating either tag. Thanks for bringing this up.
The first tag is like [this article about a topic, event, or news item in the open source/FLOSS world]. Somebody proposed [foss-meta]. My example links are examples of this tag.
The second is a tag like [this project that I’m linking to or the project this article about is itself properly open source/FLOSS].
While I agree that this would be a good tag, you’re going to need to find articles that are currently tagged poorly but that would fit well with this tag.
