There is a reason why listening professors talking about doing research in the library using index cards seems so far removed from the current computer-based research workflow.
I think there are probably a lot of professors who have not taken the great leap forward…
On a more serious note the open publication of scientific work is really important as it lets everyone test out the knowledge for themselves, but also to link disparate strands of knowledge.
