Despite the disclaimer to the contrary, I’m not convinced that they haven’t overweighted “galactic algorithms” in their estimates of “algorithmic progress” based on asymptotic complexity. I don’t think that leading constants are widely published or easy to guess just from analyzing pseudocode of complicated algorithms.
