Some day I’ll understand why the Linux Subsystem for Windows is named “Windows Subsystem for Linux”.
Not an answer, but the naming scheme goes back to at least the late 90s, with Windows Services for UNIX.
Two reasons: marketing and really its an abstraction layer for Linux to run on Windows. The subsystem is what lets Linux run on the .NET kernel.
