Some good tips, I’ve found that vim’s achilles heel is that when you start to have a lot of plugins or use syntastic with compiled languages, it will often hang a bit, due to lack of proper asynchronous execution. I switched to spacemacs for a while, but now I have a pretty good neovim setup going on. Maybe I should detail it in a blog, I’ll have a look around to see if there arent already some hangong around.
