Feel free to tell what you plan on doing this weekend and even ask for help or feedback.
Please keep in mind it’s more than OK to do nothing at all too!
Continuing with my procgen cartoon generator. Was hoping to have some output to show by this post, but I got hungup a bit in details so…next weekend! This weekend I’m getting the actual first run at animation down (it’ll be delightfully terrible like everything in the first iteration :D) and answering the question “how do you lay out a scene with x people, y of which are important and deserve focus?”
My current idea is to use a force directed graph layout for the initial placement in a scene. Each character or
interaction (ie: a conversation) would be a weighted node. Pin the main interaction/character within a central-ish location and let the algorithm sort out what’s a decent distance that works based on the weights. Hopefully that’ll give good output without making it too predictable. After people are placed in the scene initially then I think the story direction can handle movement from there.
Finishing Thucydides tomorrow. Don’t have work this Sunday so I’m planning to do some light programming on a program for managing my finances in Scheme.
I’m considering buying TAPL as a practical introduction to type systems but it’s pretty expensive. Anyone here who’s read it and thinks it’s practical? I read half of PFPL but had difficulty applying it and I don’t want to waste money on another theory-heavy book.
Buying birthday gifts with my daughter for my wife. If we manage to find 3-4 hours: indoor climbing. I climed twice a week from 2005-2009 or so. Now picking it up again and it’s been fun. We now also take our daughter with us once a week and she really enjoys it so far!
Nice! You do rope climbing or bouldering? I would love to get back into climbing.
Rope climbing. So, we found the time and are just driving back :).
I’m at PyCon India! Presented my first ever major conference talk today. Was pretty fun.
I keep working on my news aggregator.
I’ve setup a home office in our temporary apartment. Setup a computer with Manjaro Linux and am planning to start building my Secret Santa app (Covert Santa).
Austin City Limits music festival! And watching the UT vs OU game!
And if there’s any time left over, working on front-end rewrite in Svelte for http://sneakysnake.io
Going to Ottawa for thanksgiving. Apparently Canada has thanksgiving in October. This feels surreal. Going to be amusing to call my parents.
PAX Australia! 2 days down already, it’s been fun.
Today: Meeting a friend for lunch and going to a meetup event.
Tomorrow: Going to a meetup event in the afternoon.
Looking at houses. I was planning on buying next spring, but there are a few in the historic district that just came onto the market, so I may move those plans up a few months.
Implementing the table shape for Graph Galaxy. Table is the basic shape in many diagrams such as UML. I am going to implement a WYSIWYG UI for table shape which allows us to add, merge and split table cells.
I’m debugging a metamorphic testing framework I’m writing for Rust, learning to sew a little bit, and maybe playing some disc golf if the weather permits (80F on Thursday, high 30s on Friday O_O).
It’s a downtime weekend for me. Not going to be very social, but going to work on housecleaning and hobbies. Cooking, box juggling, confectioning. Maybe some work on alloy docs.
Either working on my React/Redux/TypeScript note-taking app project that will sync to GitHub gist, TakeNote, or writing a presentation on Vue I have to do next week at a JS Meetup.
I discovered the yxml library and created bindings for it in my scheme library. This is the first time I can handle SSAX-like event-driven xml parsing!
