I think this piece makes the situation sound much worse than it is. Like the difference between 5gbs and 10gbs seems like something I could care about, but probably don’t. And what am I going to do? I have a 5gbs computer and a 10gbs hard drive. Am I going to not plug them together? Throw them away? Or maybe just use them as best I can? I don’t lose sleep over the fact that my 100mbs printer is plugged into a 1gbs switch even though there’s some theoretical not sameness.
Also, I wish he hadn’t said using the wrong cable can damage your device. Using a defective cable can do that. But it’s not a problem unique to a particular connector geometry.
