I think it’s going to be a very long time before we see widespread adoption of any programming language that makes heavy use of symbols that aren’t commonly printed on any keyboards. I don’t even know what some of them are called, so would I find how to type them?
Or, at least not until every key is a little screen, and pressing my meta key switches the keyboard to display all the special symbols for my programming language - or something like that.
Custom keyboards can work in some settings like retail or stock trading. I agree it’s gotta be pretty standard for mainstream languages, though. I think that might have reduced uptake of APL, too. Details here. I think LISP machines had their own, too.
