I honestly think game engine should be free software and game companies can hold onto arts assets and game rules as proprietary. So many old games with bugs that have to be worked around with time-consuming reverse engineering. If you are not going to support your old games, this is the least you could do to your community and fans.
I’d go further to public domain anything they’re not going to support. They gotta give to get. If they want I.P. protection, they give the development and/or support.
I’ve never been a guy that would go in and hack like this, so it was cool to see someone doing it. And for non-techies, he did a decent job of presenting programming concepts (like the call stack, constructors).
The most disturbing aspect of this bug is that Guitar Hero was 10 years ago.
