I’m still amazed that Wine is such a functional piece of software (and can run Microsoft Office and lots of other heavyweight software successfully). When I first heard of it in the early/mid 1990s I never thought it would be anywhere near as successful as it is today.

The history makes for an interesting read for those that way inclined.
