    Obviously! When you’re tasked with an “Export to Excel” feature, it is invariably to please the many computer illiterate Office rats, not because it computer-scientifically makes sense at all.

      Python is probably my least-favourite language, but for what they want to do (consume CVS, do a little bit of processing), the whole thing could be implemented in at most a few hundred Python with Pandas. You’re dealing with, at most, a few million rows (if R stays well above 1 for a few months) and even slow Python on a laptop will happily handle that.

      The entire management chain that signed off on a design using Excel should be charged with criminal negligence and manslaughter.
