What DNS servers do people like to use? While going through the arch install docs I often saw the quad9 foundation’s servers, and I’ve seen them pop up in other places in FOSS documentation, so I’ve started using them. Presumably they aren’t harvesting my DNS queries and selling them, while Google I’m sure derives a great amount of tracking information from their popular DNS offering. Anyone host their own DNS server for their LAN?
Google does not use any personal information collected through the Public DNS service to target ads. We do not correlate or associate personal information in Google Public DNS logs with your information from use of any other Google service except for addressing security and abuse.
EDIT: I’ve used 8.8.8.8 for years, but quad9 seems nifty. Also FWIW I don’t think it’s unreasonable to question why an advertising company offers a free DNS service, given the data that could be extracted from it.
