In Germany there was already repair warranty; if you sent a product in to be repaired, you had warranty on the repair for the normal 2 years (6 months being proof-of-burden on the repair shop to prove that the customer caused it). This is basically a natural extension.
The new part is that the vendors have to provide spare parts and don’t hinder customers, might make the Google Ecosystem a bit uncomfortable for a bit.
