AMP will kill the web. Definitely not a good idea. It’ll just power Google.
I’ve tried a lot of Linux desktop environments, and Mint is easily my favorite. I can’t quite explain why except that it’s the only one I started using and never wanted to move away from or try another. Mate is probably a close second.
I’ve been a Cinnamon user for a long time and before that I was using MATE. I’m currently on GNOME but to tell you the truth I’m not satisfied. Cinnamon’s great.
This is a handy resource! I used to use a variety of websites to validate the different aspects of the indieweb on my website. Having it all on one page makes validating easier
I myself haven’t started yet. I installed a theme (WordPress) suggested by them and installed plugins but still didn’t start to do the things. Write about your steps. On your blog or Mastodon. I think I already have followed you.
I just lost 2.5TB of important data and I’ll be recovering/building those information all week or maybe all month. And I also live in Iran so I can’t pay for stuff (I explained/cried here: https://social.tchncs.de/@arh/104105168565243534) so I’ll be searching for someone/some foundation that can pay costs of a year for a Wordpress host.
How much traffic/storage are you expecting for your WordPress host? Is it connected to those 2.5TB of data? I am asking because your personal host seems to already run on https://www.autistici.org/, and as you probably know, they run a Wordpress farm at https://noblogs.org/ . I guess that’s insufficient for your needs?
Completely unrelated to that 2.5 TB. My whole posts take about 200 KiB right now (yes, that small) and I probably won’t use more than 100 MiB of bandwidth monthly. Yes, my website is currently hosted on Autistici/Inventati but they don’t support blogs (PHP/Database) with personal domain and I always gave my domain as my main address and I want to use my personal domain for my blog. Noblogs doesn’t support custom domain either (however I have a blog there and I update it whenever I update my blog on my domian). If I can’t find a hosting (that is libre and privacy-focused), I’ll continue using static site.
I read your mastodon post. You may be able to use Jekyll on your phone. This is a post by Aral Balkan on how he’s using Hugo on his phone to power his website. See https://ar.al/2018/07/30/web-development-on-a-phone-with-hugo-and-termux/ Perhaps his experience can help you set something similar up on your phone?
That won’t work for me. I’ll need to build my website that uses some gems and then upload it to Autistici. Local gems won’t work on phone. Even if it works, I need something that works everywhere the same and takes less time. But thanks for your message. I really apprentice it.
It’s interesting that one of the “blocker bugs” are the missing backgrounds.
I submitted a photo from a trip a few years ago for the supplemental wallpaper to be included with the 32 release and I can see that the voting process is open until end of the month so let’s see what happens! :)
Cool. Add the poll link here.
The poll is here (my photo is the Calming Sunset one) https://apps.fedoraproject.org/nuancier/elections/
Since this link requires logging in (an possibly being a fedora contributor): this is markosaric’s photo: https://apps.fedoraproject.org/nuancier/pictures/fedora_32/markosaric-DSC_0196_2.JPG
Just made it my background and immediately removed it. Why? Because it’s slightly off kilter, driving me crazy. The horizon needs to be level.
Where does one submit these things? Asking for a friend 😁
The submission period is closed now and the voting is ongoing. The website is here https://apps.fedoraproject.org/nuancier/
Ditto is a well known clipboard manager that’s existed since at least 2004. If the author reads this you might want to consider changing the name.
I don’t use GitLab myself but if you do, please open an issue.
This seems interesting, and a little more neater than Riot. It still, however, lacks support for encrypted chats. I’m bookmarking it though!
Yeah. I personally don’t use it as security is more important to me than features and user interface.
A better link would be to the product itself: https://www.darktable.org/
Well I thought the software (code) itself is more interesting.
Fair enough. Any particular part of it (algorithms, implementation)?
No, just that it’s libre and customizable based on need.
Since I wrote my own minimalistic URL shortener in Go, I suddenly see many more URL shortener projects. However, it seems that many URL shorteners are simply used to collect and track stats.
You’re not wrong. However, tracking clicks is one of the features lot of people would want. I personally think tracking in any way is wrong. Nice that you use Codeberg instead of GitHub and stuff.
There are url shorteners you typically use on your own domain and then there are full “products” like this one. I was a bit surprised at the number of dependencies they use https://github.com/thedevs-network/kutt#stack - but it’s a fully fleshed out web app after all.
It’s also pretty cool. Good user interface and very smooth.
I was going to suggest it to Lobste.rs but I thought they obviously know about this and now I see this here. Petition to make Lobste.rs use Libravatar instead Gravatar.
Well there is the pull request I mentioned above.
Well I personally just write html myself for my website but last time I used a static blog generator, Pelican was a real good tool. It’s powered by Python and really easy to use. You also write your content in Markdown markup.
+1 - Pelican is squeaky clean. The codebase is elegant and well thought out. Very easy to read, understand, and extend.
Very strong recommend, especially for folks who want to twiddle and tweak but not because you HAVE to.
