Hadn’t heard of prgmr before, thanks for hosting!

Your original 600MB tracking pixel was a pain in the ass, I’m sure everybody who accessed the website using limited cellular data is very fond of you.

Especially during a weekend where many (at least Europeans) were traveling.

Also keep in mind that a lot of people outside the US (i.e. Europe) are on 500MB/1GB plans, so you burn through that with LTE very quickly. And not everyone can afford to buy extra data. This is extremely rude.

Well even as an american, I accessed this site and that page over my cellular connection. Sigh, even with a 10GiB monthly cap that probably used up a ton of data pointlessly.

        2. 3

… I was wondering how I ran out of data 4 days early this month.

          1. 4

I, well, believe it should count as part of the experience.

            1. 2

You don’t RSS your mobile feeds?

              1. 3

                I haven’t used RSS since like 2009.

                1. 6

But it was 2002, atleast according to the post dates!

                  1. 4

We have https, too, to make sure those dates weren’t tampered with in transit.

FOUR USB/thunderbolt ports??? That’s far too many. I’m outraged, I tell you, outraged.

You can still buy one with an escape key, the entry level model. But it has a slower CPU. In fact, even with the +$300 upgrade, it’s the same price as the touchbar model and still slower.

              1. 5

But the one with the escape key has only 2 USB/thunderbolt ports.

And has a bigger battery for some reason?

                1. 2

It’s not bigger. The 13" low end configuration has a 15W CPU, and the high end 13" configuration has a 28W CPU.

edit: Saw the link… it is bigger? That’s weird, and even with a lower wattage CPU and a bigger battery, it gets the same battery life. Wat.

                  1. 21

Well, you know how the main use of the Escape key is to hit it whenever you see something that makes you go “Wat”?

If they leave the key on the lower-end model, all the watts will escape–hence the bigger battery.

                  2. 2

And weirdly has BTO options for an i7, albeit a 2.4Ghz (3.4Ghz Turbo Boost) model, 16GiB RAM and 1TiB SSD. Not quite so “low end”, really.

                    1. 3

Dual core i7, give me a quad with 16gb of ram and skylake in a 13" chassis for under 2 grand and I would consider it. I think the price points are too high to be super competitive, the touchbar is gimmicky to me.

                      1. 1

Indeed, 13" Macs with i7s have always been dual core. I’m guessing the loss in battery life and increase in heat made it not worthwhile going with the quad core parts.

                  3. 4

Wtf, function over form? Is this actually an Apple product?

                    1. 3

And any of the four ports can be used for charging? What madness is this?!

                    1. 3

I will go out of my way to business with people who use ACH transfers. You want the customer at the end of the day but you should not have to sacrifice margins. Paypal and the large credit card companies are after the convenience crowd so the Dwolla/ACH route will need to be incentivized for people to take the time to move away from the easier processes. It is not directly the consumer’s money which is the only reason these payment providers do so well.
