    I like sharing these sorts of things with my kids. People in general don’t realize how important precision is. A lot of people assume because they are able to be loose that there is no value to precision. I believe it is because we are, as a society, precise in these kinds of areas that imprecision can be taken as a luxury further down the line without as much incident.

      Agreed. Considering that we’re measuring things on more minute scales than throughout history, having a precise base unit measurement also allows these derived measurements to be accurate.

      Going back to foundations by re-reading “Time, Clocks and the Ordering of Events in Distributed Systems”. Lamport’s writing is so damn dense, dear lord.

        I don’t understand what prevents the box from popping open when shipped, if all you have do do is press down on the lid.

          Yes, and my concern is that there’s no way to tell that the container has been opened in transit. Sticky-fingered USPS people would love this. You could use a piece of tape much like the old wax seals though.
