It didn’t strike me that way, especially in light of the recent Lenovo Superfish fiasco: http://arstechnica.com/security/2015/03/two-weeks-on-superfish-debacle-still-causing-pain-for-some-lenovo-customers/ Avoiding junkware/adware on new PCs strikes me as a way to avoid spam/advertising. Too few folks, even in IT, are aware of this option for new PCs.
This was already tried in England in the first half of the 20th century. It doesn’t work.
