I don’t get it: are you saying that SE is way worse with complexity than other industries? Then why did you cite all the cases of other industries being incredibly complex?

Without being able to examine other industries in a lot more detail, I’m not sure it’s safe to conclude one way or another that SE is worse or better. It may be the case that it embraces unnecessary complexity more gladly than other industries. Industries where there’s a more final definition of done (e.g. ok, the bridge has now been built and signed off), may have a natural advantage when it comes to resisting these problems, though that could also be related to regulation.

Built and signed off is the first step of a long and arduous maintenence and problem resolution process.

Work is easy to simplify from the outside.
